Nothing Too Hard

A commission. When God makes us a promise, we can be confident He will deliver, impossible though it may seem. The Bible is full of notable examples of this, and every day our real lives are full of less obvious but no less significant instances. Difficult and painful though our present circumstances may be, we can look to God with the hope that He will keep all his promises and fix all things that are broken; even us.

The commissioner for this piece chose the scripture, character, and pose. For those unfamiliar, this creature is known as a sergal, which is a fictitious alien species resembling something like a cross between a shark and a rabbit or kangaroo. The choice in species doesn't have anything, in particular, to do with the chosen scripture; simply a stylistic choice.

If you'd like an illustration featuring a scripture or inspirational quote of your choice, check out my commissions page for more info: sourpeppers.com/p/commissions.html

News » Updated Update Schedule

Man, I can't tell you how good it feels to be working on the main story again! I've really missed it, and I'm glad to be getting back into updating it more-or-less consistently. In order to better stay on top of not only the comic but my other real-life responsibilities, however, there will be some changes to how comic updates are released. I wanted to make sure all readers--especially long-time readers--are aware of these changes:

First, you may have noticed that the past few pages have been released in sections instead of the entire page at once. This pattern will continue moving forward, though it will largely depend on how well the story is served by an update of a particular size. Sometimes it will make sense for a page to be split into two equal halves, and release the first half one week, and then the second half the following. Sometimes it will make sense to divide the page differently; say, into 1/4 and 3/4 sections, or 1/3 and 2/3 sections, etc. Or, occasionally it may not make sense to divide the page at all, and on those weeks you'll get the full page. The main takeaway is, I'll be focusing on story updates rather than page updates. So if a page is divided into two parts, each of those parts will stand on their own as a single comic update (no cutting off in the middle of someone's sentence, for example). When it comes time to put them together into a digital or physical book, however, all the pieces will be put back together into full pages.

Second, in order to not burn out, I'm going to put a limit on how many hours per week I work on comics. As long as I'm able to finish each page in the time I've allotted, comic updates will continue to happen regularly. However, if there's a string of pages that all take longer than usual to complete, there may occasionally be weeks where a comic update doesn't occur. When that happens, I'll usually share a quick sketch or mini-comic to fill the gap.

Third, to further help with my workload, I'll be releasing "mini-stories" in between each main chapter. While a typical chapter usually contains between 10-20 individual updates, these mini-stories will only be between 4-6 updates or so. They might just be black and white and/or use a simpler art style. They might feature the main cast, or it might be a short story about me and Maiara. Or that space might even be filled with guest comics. (Speaking of, if you're ever interested in submitting a guest comic, even if no official guest comic event has been announced, feel free to reach out to me about it.)

Finally, while Books 1 and 2 are still available to preorder, there probably won't be a physical Book 3 for a while. As awesome as it is to see the books in physical form, they take a lot of work to put together. So, unfortunately, further physical books will be put on hold. There still may be digital versions made available, however, as well as other physical merchandise that's easier to put together. And as readership increases and another physical book becomes more viable, I'll definitely revisit the option.

All of these represent a decrease in overall output from me. However, those who've been following the website for the past year or so will probably note that output has already been lower than usual due to circumstances outside my control. It's my hope that by deliberately scaling back, I'll be better able to roll with the punches life deals me and keep story updates more or less consistent.

That said, you have the ability to help the main story update more frequently. The more financial support Aww, Feathers! receives, the more time I'll be able to dedicate to creating new story updates. That can take the form of subscribing to Aww, Feathers! on Patreon, leaving a one-time donation, or making a purchase at the Aww, Feathers! Store. And if you're unable to contribute financially at this time, simply sharing the webcomic with friends and family is a great way to help that doesn't cost a nickel!

Thank you all! I hope you enjoy the autumn weather, as well as the resuming story!
